Understanding your hopes and dreams is the first step to reaching your goals. Until you know where you want to be, you can never know the proper steps to get there. Writing a letter to your future self can be a great way to help you manifest your dreams and live the life you truly want.

How To Write A Letter To Your Future Self

For me, this process involves a lot of self-reflection and meditation. I write my letters to myself a month in advance. A small time frame with reasonable goals to reach.

To begin, I always start with meditation.

I focus on my breathing and allow myself to get lost in my thoughts about the future. I focus on where I will be at the end of the month. When I wake up on the last day of the month, what will be in store for me? I daydream about this day and focus on the details that I am proud of.

Once I have my vision for where I want to be, I begin to write.

I like to write in an informal tone. Imagine chatting with a friend – that is the tone I use for my letter to my future self. You can write however you feel comfortable. I start with a general idea but I really let my hand dictate what happens and try not to overthink the words that flow onto the page. Working in a stream of conscious style really allows for freedom of expression without adding the fear of what ifs into the mix.

Do not fear what you write. There is no need to share this with the world. It is supposed to inspire and motivate you.

I read what I write to my future self every day. I take it to heart and use it to inspire me to reach my goals. If at the end of the month my predictions do not come true then I will just continue to work hard to become the person I want to be.

Sometimes, you need to take a step back and appreciate who you are and all that you accomplish even if big goals are not met.

That is where I was last month. I want to share this with you because I feel it is a strong reminder to be kind to ourselves. When I started writing this I did not know it was going to go in the direction it did. I honestly do not remember the meditation I did before this but I am very proud of how it came out.

It helped me get through some tough times.

A Hard Month…

I want to share with you what I wrote at the beginning of April.

March was a very hard month for me. I lost my grandmother and was still mourning her loss. My websites and social media outlets were ignored while I focused on myself.

Little did I know, while writing this letter, that I would have to say goodbye to another beloved family member as well. April was going to be another hard month.

Future Self: April 30th

It has been a few hard months but you pushed through and persevered. I am proud of you.

It can be hard to push past emotional hurdles but instead of falling, they lifted you up and you used them to empower yourself.

The numbers do not really matter. No matter the statistics and what they show, be proud of the work you have done. Whether you inspired 400 people or 400,000, it is more than you would have if you did not try.

If you can touch the soul of one person each month, each day, each moment… then you have done what you were put on this earth to do. You are here to inspire and motivate.

Spread your wings and soar.

I am proud of you and all you accomplished this month.
